Commiphora Jacq (Burseraceae) in Saudi Arabia, Botanical, Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Notes

Commiphora species are of high medicinal importance. They distributed in Saudi Arabia, mainly rocky habitats and regions under mountains, including the east Tihama, forming a distinct element flora. The present study focuses on botanical characterization five Commiphora, i.e., C. erythraea, gileadensis, kataf, myrrha, quadricincta. morphological characters for each were recorded comparatively, their taxonomic relationships examined using gross morphology by generating UPGMA dendrogram, which separated into two groups. A dichotomous key was generated to facilitate identification process plant, even naked eye, obvious characteristics. Because similarities anatomical structure stem petiole most studied species, only quantitative variations illustrated comparatively. Seed macro- micro-morphological characteristics comparatively be used case leaf absence. phytochemical included measurements total phenolic flavonoid contents. results correlated with ethno-botanic survey. traditional uses all questionnaire open interviews method data collecting. revealed that common traditionally myrrha gileadensis. recommends more research advanced techniques tries increase public awareness importance these plants.
